Save One PDF Page as a JPG

Saving a PDF page as a JPG turns that page into a single picture file. This guide lists the steps we ran with this site's PDF to JPG tool, and the results for one test page at each resolution.

How do I save just one page as a JPG?

Type the page number in the Pages box and click Save as JPG.

  1. Open PDF to JPG and add your PDF. You will see the page count and size, such as "2 pages · 32 KB".
  2. Choose a Resolution and a Quality. How to choose is below.
  3. In Pages, type the pages to save. Leave it empty for all pages. Type 1 for one page, or 1-3, 5 for several.
  4. Click the save button, which shows the page count, such as "Save as JPG (1 page)".
  5. On the result screen, check the image size and file size, then click Download JPG. The file is named <original name>_page<number>.jpg.

How do I choose a resolution?

Choose Screen to view on a screen, Standard (recommended) to share a document, and Print to print. The screen lists them as 96 dpi, 150 dpi and 300 dpi. We saved page 1 of a test PDF (A4 size, text and a table only) with each setting:

ResolutionImage sizeQuality: HighQuality: Medium
Screen, 96 dpi794×1123px49 KB43 KB
Standard, 150 dpi1240×1754px95 KB83 KB
Print, 300 dpi2480×3508px252 KB220 KB

The screen shows the "First page image size" as soon as you choose a resolution. These numbers are for a test page of text and a table only, so a page with many photos gives bigger files. Saving a 1-page test scan at 150 dpi and High quality gave 762 KB. We measured image size and file size here; we did not compare picture quality by eye, so open the saved image and look at it yourself.

What happens if I save several pages?

With 2 or more images, each page becomes its own JPG, and Download all as ZIP gets them in one go. Converting our 2-page test PDF with the default settings (150 dpi, High) showed "2 JPG images created · 166 KB in total", with a Download button for each page as well. The ZIP is named <original name>_jpg.zip and held one image per page.

When this does not work

  • Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Adding one showed a notice that password-protected PDFs are not supported for JPG conversion. → Can't Merge or Split a Protected PDF?
  • A page number that does not exist showed a message asking for a number in the valid range, and the save button could not be clicked.
  • A JPG is a picture, so you cannot select or copy its text afterwards. Keep the PDF if you need the text.
  • According to the on-screen note, transparent backgrounds are saved as white and a page's rotation is kept as it is displayed. We did not test these two ourselves.
  • Very large pages are saved at a lower resolution. When we saved a fake 4000×6000pt page at 300 dpi, a notice said the page was large and was saved at a lower resolution (long side 7348px), and the result was 4899×7348px. This is a result on a test page.

To pull some pages out as a new PDF instead, see How to extract pages from a PDF. If you want a smaller PDF rather than pictures, see How to reduce PDF file size.
