Put Several Receipt PDFs into One Excel Sheet
You can merge several receipt PDFs into one PDF and then convert it to Excel to see them all in one file. This guide lists the steps we ran with this site's Merge PDF and PDF to Excel tools on 3 fake receipts, and what came out. The shop names and numbers in our test receipts are all made up.

Which receipt PDFs can be converted?
Only PDFs that contain text can be converted. A receipt saved as a PDF from an app or an online shop may be one of these. A paper receipt that was scanned, or a photo made into a PDF, stores its text as a picture and cannot be converted. When we added a test scanned PDF, the screen showed "Scanned (image) PDFs cannot be converted." This site has no feature that reads text in photos. → How to tell a scanned PDF from a text PDF
How do I put several receipt PDFs into one Excel sheet?
- Open Merge PDF and add all the receipt PDFs. They are merged from top to bottom; use the ↑ ↓ buttons or drag to change the order. In our test we added 3 receipts (1 page each) and the button read "Merge PDF (3 files · 3 pages)".
- Click the button, then Download PDF. Our result read "1 PDF · 3 pages in total · 48 KB" and the file was named
merged.pdf. - Open PDF to Excel and add the merged PDF. The screen said "Found 3 tables in 3 pages", one table per receipt.
- Choose Sheets.
- One per page: one sheet per receipt (the sheets were named Page 1, Page 2, Page 3 in our test).
- All in one sheet: all receipts follow one another on a single sheet (named "All pages", 27 rows in our test).
- For Formatting, choose Apply original formatting to keep the look, or Values only if you need just the numbers.
- Click Download Excel file. The file was named
merged.xlsx.
What does the one-sheet result look like?
With our 3 test receipts on one sheet:
- The "상호: …" (shop) and "일자: …" (date) lines at the top of each receipt stayed as they were. The shop and date are one line of text at the top of each receipt, not separate columns.
- The column header row (item, quantity, unit price, amount) stayed only for the first receipt and was not added for the second and third.
- Quantity, unit price and amount came in as numbers (for example, the amount cell 7,500 was the number 7500, not text).
- The "합계" (total) row of each receipt also came in, one per receipt.
How do I check the sum?
Do not add up the whole amount column. Add only the total rows to check. The totals of our 3 test receipts were 29,100, 12,600 and 38,700, which add up to 80,400. But adding the whole amount column of the one-sheet result counts both the items and the total rows, giving double that: 160,800.
- Add only the total rows. If the item column holds "합계" on those rows, the formula is
=SUMIF(A:A,"합계",D:D)(when column A is the item and column D is the amount). On our result file this should give 80,400. We worked out the numbers by reading the cell values in the file, then put this formula into LibreOffice Calc and checked it. We did not try it in Microsoft Excel. (The word to match depends on your receipts; ours say "합계".) - For each receipt, add its item amounts and see whether it equals that receipt's total. If you made the file with One per page,
=SUM(amount range)on each sheet makes this easy. - If the sums do not match, check whether some amount cells were left as text. → Fix numbers stored as text
- Finally, compare with the amounts on the original receipt PDFs. How to check a converted PDF table explains how to match row counts and totals.
When this does not work
- Scanned receipts and photo receipts are not converted. You see the notice above.
- Receipts differ from shop to shop. Our test used only 3 fake receipts laid out as tables, so we cannot say other layouts give the same result. After converting, compare the preview and the Excel file with the original once.
- We did not test receipt PDFs that have text but no table.
- Merging receipts only adds up the pages; it does not tidy the items. To split shop, date and amount into columns, you have to arrange them in Excel yourself.
The conversion is automatic, so check the amounts against the originals before you use them.
